DC/DC Converters in Use
Our DC/DC converters reliably supply electrical and electronic systems with stable voltages. Their applications range from mobile machinery and autonomous vehicles to battery and energy systems, as well as railway, cable car and space applications.
Discover real-world applications and projects and learn how we solve challenges such as fluctuating input voltages, limited installation space, high power requirements and demanding environmental conditions.
Our DC/DC converters are not limited to specific applications. The right solution depends on the technical requirements of each system, such as input and output voltage, power, isolation, environmental conditions and form factor.
In aerospace applications, low weight, compact size and high reliability are mission-critical. Our projects range from compact DC/DC converters for unmanned aerial rescue systems to galvanically isolated high-voltage solutions for re-entry capsules.
AGVs and AMRs require a stable power supply for control systems, sensors, cameras and communication systems. Buck-boost and wide-input-range DC/DC converters compensate for fluctuating battery voltages and can be used across different vehicle platforms and power classes.
Forklifts, electric forklifts and pallet trucks operate with different battery voltages depending on the vehicle. Our wide-input-range DC/DC converters reliably supply 12 V or 24 V onboard systems with stable voltage, allowing the same converter solution to be used across different battery systems and vehicle platforms.
In wind, solar and off-grid systems, DC/DC converters supply power to control systems, actuators, communication and backup systems. Our converters are used, among other applications, in emergency power systems for wind turbines, allowing the rotor blades to be moved out of the wind in the event of a fault. Galvanically isolated and parallel-capable solutions provide high power and reliable operation even under extreme offshore conditions.
Rail vehicles often have highly fluctuating 24 VDC, 48 VDC or 110 VDC onboard power systems. Our robust wide-input-range converters provide stable, galvanically isolated or bipolar auxiliary voltages for control, measurement and communication systems.
The voltage of batteries and supercapacitors changes significantly during charging and discharging. Our buck-boost and wide-input-range DC/DC converters make use of a large part of the available voltage range and ensure a stable power supply to connected loads even when the storage voltage drops significantly.
Modern cableways power lighting, seat heating, monitors, communication systems and other cabin functions from batteries or supercapacitors. Our DC/DC converters stabilise these onboard power systems even at high altitudes, low temperatures and with strongly fluctuating storage voltages.
In electric trucks, electric delivery vehicles and other commercial vehicles, our DC/DC converters reliably supply onboard electronics, control systems and electrical auxiliary loads with stable voltages. Wide-input-range and buck-boost converters compensate for fluctuating battery voltages and provide an efficient power supply across different vehicle and battery systems.

FAQs
Here you’ll find answers to frequently asked questions about our DC/DC converters, their applications and how to choose the right solution.
What applications are Demke DC/DC converters used in?
Our DC/DC converters are used in applications including vehicle technology and e-mobility, intralogistics, robotics, construction and mining equipment, agricultural and forestry machinery, railway technology, cableways, battery and energy systems, marine applications and aerospace. They reliably supply control systems, sensors, communication systems, actuators and other electrical loads with stable voltages. The converters are not limited to specific applications. The technical requirements of each system determine which converter is the right choice.
Does Demke offer only standard products or also custom solutions?
We offer standard products as well as modified and fully custom DC/DC converters. Depending on the project, the input voltage range, output voltage, power, connections, housing, control characteristics and mechanical design can be adapted to meet specific requirements.
What information is needed to select a DC/DC converter?
Important factors include the minimum and maximum input voltage, required output voltage, continuous and peak power, galvanic isolation, available installation space, as well as the mechanical, environmental and EMC requirements of the application.
Can DC/DC converters handle widely fluctuating battery voltages?
Yes. Wide-input-range and buck-boost DC/DC converters can compensate for fluctuating input voltages from batteries, supercapacitors and vehicle onboard power systems. Ultra-wide input ranges of up to 1:10 allow for particularly large input voltage ranges. The appropriate topology depends on the actual input voltage range and the required output voltage.
Can higher output power be achieved by connecting converters in parallel?
Yes. DC/DC converters designed for parallel operation can be connected in parallel. This allows the output power to be scaled and the same converter platform to be used for different power levels.
Are the DC/DC converters protected against vibration and environmental conditions?
Yes. Many of our DC/DC converters feature a robust aluminium housing and fully polyurethane-encapsulated electronics. Depending on the product version, they are designed to withstand high levels of vibration and shock as well as moisture, dirt and extreme temperatures. Selected products meet protection ratings up to IP69K. The suitability of each product is assessed based on the specific application and product version.
Does Demke also support projects with small quantities?
Yes. Demke also supports projects with small quantities, small production runs and specialised applications. The technical requirements, development scope and long-term potential of the project are the key factors.
How is an application reviewed?
You send us the key electrical and mechanical requirements of your application directly via our enquiry form. We then check whether an existing standard product can be used, whether a modification is suitable or whether a custom development is required.
What input and output voltages are possible with Demke DC/DC converters?
Demke DC/DC converters cover different input and output voltage ranges depending on the product series. Ultra-wide input ranges of up to 1:10 allow a single product version to be used across different battery and onboard power systems. In addition to standard output voltages, custom voltages and voltage ranges are also available. The technical requirements of each application determine the most suitable solution.
