Product Description: DC-Converter Starbooster 739-160-SD

The Starbooster 739-160-SD is a high-performance galvanically isolated DC/DC step-up converter for 24 V battery systems, converting input voltages from 23 to 36 VDC to 160 VDC. With an output power of 550 W, the DC/DC converter delivers up to 3.5 A and achieves an efficiency of up to 95%. The galvanic isolation between primary and secondary side is rated at 2100 VDC.

The 739-160-SD was developed for applications where a comparatively low battery voltage needs to be converted reliably into a high DC output voltage. Its CC/CV characteristic enables operation with capacitive and active loads as well as the parallel connection of multiple converters. The maximum permissible capacitive load is unlimited. Integrated EMI filters on the input and output, very low input ripple and noise, and continuous no-load and short-circuit capability ensure stable operation even under demanding electrical conditions.

A full polyurethane potting compound protects the electronics against moisture, vibration and other environmental influences while also supporting the converter’s thermal performance. The Starbooster operates without power derating at ambient temperatures from −40 °C to +85 °C and features thermal shutdown at +90 °C. Its robust and compact housing measuring 130 × 130 × 28 mm makes it particularly suitable for mobile and battery-powered systems.

The product series originated from a customer-specific development for a particularly demanding space application. A DC/DC converter was required in a re-entry capsule to provide the high DC voltage needed for a safety-relevant system while withstanding severe vibrations during rocket launch and challenging environmental conditions. The resulting robust power electronics are also well suited for applications in aerospace, drones and UAVs, electric mobility, battery-powered systems, and battery charging systems.

With its wide input voltage range, galvanic isolation, 160 VDC output voltage, CC/CV regulation and 550 W output power, the Starbooster 739-160-SD is a robust solution for applications requiring reliable generation of high DC voltages from a 24 V electrical system.
